They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
In the above text, we are told that when David was at his weakest point, the Lord held him and led him to a place of safety simply because He delighted in him. When God delights in a man, He does everything possible to guide and protect the person because he/she is so precious to Him.
It is not enough for God to delight in a man, but man must also delight and find pleasure in pleasing God, because this is what makes the desires of the man to be fulfilled. A man who delights in pleasing God is a man whose life God jealously protects and guides. David was such an example, and yet when he wanted to build a temple where he could worship his God, God refused to grant him that desire (2 Samuel 7:1-13; 1 Chronicles 22:8). Why? Sometimes even though you delight in God and God delights in you, God can still say No to you, and has His reasons for doing so. In the case of David, we are told that it was because “You have caused a lot of bloodshed and fought in a lot of wars. You must not build a temple for my name because you have caused so much bloodshed in my presence” – 1 Chronicles 22:8.
The man must also delight in God with the right motive. God can find delight in a man, when he sees that his heart is right with him and void of offences towards man. A right heart towards God will provoke God to reach out to help such a man in his time of need; when such a man is at the weakest point of his life. This was what God saw in David. Could you honestly say this of you?
A man, whom God delights in, is a man who finds pleasure in the things that pertains to God, a man whose heart is right towards God. If you want God to delight in you, then you may need to search yourself to see if you meet all these requirements. And you never know, this action of yours may even prompt God to prevent you from sinning. God is love and is constantly looking for men and women after His own heart. Why don’t you make that you!
